Calling All Heroes

What public figures do you admire? Have you ever read an article or even a book about someone who inspired you? What was it about them that struck that inner cord inside you and made you want to be a better person?

For me this time it wasn't a book or an article. It was a photograph. It wasn't a great leader, but a child.

In my search for American Heroes that I admired, I ran accross an image that moved me, inspired me, filled me with a range of emotions from sadness and remorse to  respect, pride, and love.

My attempt to create a pumpkin pattern of this image failed. Yes, I did attempt to capture the feeling and the message this picture evoked in me, but, of course, I fell short.

Out of respect for Christian and his mother, this pattern is not available. However, with her permission I carved it and displayed it as a symbol of the definition of "American Hero"  - see top pumpkin below.
